ABOUT THE ARTIST
“My artwork is an intuitive reaction to the experience of time passing. The intangible space we inhabit called memory is what permeates all of my work. I reference the landscape of my past, both physical and mental, and let my materials inform the direction in which each painting develops. I am interested in the psychological reactions we have to smell, sound, touch and the senses ability to transport us emotionally and psychologically to familiar places and times.
Painting acts as a vehicle for me to better understand my own personal past as well as to connect with others, making the sometimes isolated and displaced emotions evoked by the progression of time more tangible.”
California native and Santa Barbara based artist Hannah Henderson has been immersed in the arts from an early age. Attending a small alternative elementary-middle school that emphasized art through the curriculum, she was exposed to painting, fiber arts, collage, and other forms of self expression.
Hannah was accepted into Santa Barbara High School’s Visual Arts and Design Academy from which she graduated in 2006. From there she continued at Santa Barbara City College studying figure drawing, painting, color and design, ceramics, and other visual and creative courses.
After Graduating from SBCC with two AAs in Studio Art and Liberal Studies, Hannah transferred to University of California Santa Cruz, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art in 2012.
Hannah began working in various art studios while living in Australia, teaching ceramics and fiber arts workshops. She then spent two years living in Oakland, California where she worked as a ceramic studio technician at the Walnut Creek Center for Community Arts.
Most recently, Hannah has relocated to her hometown of Santa Barbara, and works as a Teaching Artist at SlingShot Art Studio and Gallery where she supports artists with developmental disabilities in pursuing their artistic visions and goals.
